Position Overview
The Salon Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the salon floor and supporting student success, client experience, retail performance, and overall school growth. This role is hands-on, people-focused, and fast-paced. The ideal candidate thrives in a busy salon environment, is proactive, organized, creative, and passionate about cosmetology education.
This position is designed to free the owner to focus on high-level strategy while ensuring the school runs smoothly, professionally, and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Front Desk Operations
Greet, check in, and check out all salon clients
Answer incoming phone calls during school hours
Book, reschedule, and manage client appointments using scheduling software
Ensure client flow runs smoothly during peak hours
Maintain a welcoming, professional front desk presence at all times
Student Support & School Operations
Monitor student progress to ensure students are staying on track with services
Answer student questions related to services they are performing (within scope)
Support instructors by helping manage daily salon floor activity
Assist in keeping students productive and client chairs filled
Manage and oversee the daily student cleaning schedule
Ensure the school is clean, organized, and presentable at all times
Social Media & Marketing
Create and post daily content for the school on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms
Carry out specific post requests from ownership
Engage with local community posts and groups to promote services and fill salon schedules
Assist with promotions, incentives, and marketing initiatives to increase bookings
Retail & Inventory Management
Manage retail sales, inventory counts, and merchandise displays
Track retail performance and suggest new products for inventory
Educate and encourage students on retail selling techniques
Help increase overall retail revenue through merchandising and engagement
Enrollment Support (After Training Period)
Schedule prospective student tours
Conduct school tours when ready
Support the enrollment process by guiding prospects through paperwork
Help convert tours into signed enrollment agreements
Schedule & Availability
Must have open availability
Schedule will vary based on student and client needs
Presence is required during the school’s busiest hours
Flexibility is essential as schedules may shift
Required Qualifications
Active Tennessee Cosmetologist License (preferred)
Strong communication and organizational skills
Comfortable using scheduling software
Experience with social media platforms (required)
Professional appearance and leadership mindset
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced salon environment
Passion for education, client experience, and team culture

Cosmetology Instructor

Position Overview
The Part-Time Cosmetology Instructor supports students through hands-on instruction, theory reinforcement, and daily salon floor guidance. This role is ideal for someone who loves educating, staying active in the industry, and helping students grow — without the pressure of a full-time schedule.
Schedules may vary based on student needs and school activity, but most shifts fall during peak student hours.
Key Responsibilities
Student Instruction & Support
Instruct and supervise students during practical salon services
Demonstrate techniques in cutting, coloring, styling, shampooing, treatments, and basic chemical services
Reinforce proper sanitation, safety, and Tennessee State Board regulations at all times
Answer student questions related to services, timing, and technique
Monitor student progress and help keep them on track with required skills and hours
Classroom & Theory Support
Assist with or lead theory lessons as assigned
Help students understand textbook concepts and how they translate to real clients
Prepare students for state board practical and written exams
Support hands-on check-offs and skills assessments
Salon Floor Management
Maintain a professional, calm, and supportive learning environment
Oversee client services to ensure quality, safety, and customer satisfaction
Help manage daily flow of appointments and student rotations
Step in to troubleshoot service issues when needed
Culture & Professionalism
Lead by example in attitude, appearance, punctuality, and communication
Encourage professionalism, accountability, and confidence in students
Support Glam & Grit’s fun, motivating, and “built different” culture
Communicate clearly with leadership regarding student concerns or issues
Facility & Operations Support
Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and state-board compliant
Assist with daily cleaning and sanitation expectations
Support special events, mini classes, or themed school activities when scheduled
Qualifications
Active Tennessee Cosmetology Instructor License (required)
Previous salon experience strongly preferred
Teaching or mentoring experience a plus
Strong knowledge of current trends, techniques, and best practices
Confident communicator who can lead, redirect, and encourage students
Reliable, professional, and organized
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, real salon environment
Schedule & Compensation
Part-time position
Flexible scheduling based on school needs and availability
Hours typically fall within school operating hours (Monday 10am-6pm Tuesday–Friday 9am–9pm, Saturday 9am–3pm)
Pay based on experience and qualifications
